It's sad, because suicide is always a terrible thing. And maybe he really did lose the only source of self-esteem he ever had.
But it's still baffling. I thought property developers were made of tougher stuff. Things weren't really that bad for him were they, certainly compared to - say - your average homeless person?
It's a bit like the Jewish professionals who committed suicide in the mid-1930s in Nazi Germany because their careers were ruined because of persecution. I'm sure it was a horrific time for them, no doubt. But within 10 years their friends and relatives were in fucking concentration camps.
